What is the testing procedure for EMT certification?

The UCSB EMT course prepares the student to take the National Registry of EMT’s psychomotor and cognitive exam for EMT Certification. The course itself does not offer a certificate.

The psychomotor hands-on skills testing is provided on site near the end of the semester. The cognitive testing is delivered at a computer based testing lab off-site and is taken after the UCSB EMT course has been successfully completed. There is an additional fee for the cognitive testing. Once the National Registry EMT (NREMT) tests have been successfully passed, the student will receive their NREMT certification. They will then present their credentials to the county in California that they desire EMT certification and follow the state requirements for EMT certification.
