Will I be able to enroll in the courses I want to take?

University Immersion Program

Enrollment in academic courses is limited, and space is not guaranteed. You must meet all prerequisites listed for the course to enroll. If you are unable to enroll in your first-choice courses, you must be prepared with a list of backup course choices. The course enrollment process varies by the type of course you wish to enroll in. For UCSB Academic courses, enrollment begins on the first day of the quarter.

To comply with F-1 Student Visa regulations, you must enroll in credit courses and attend each class in person. You are allowed to take only one online course (or max 3 units) towards your full schedule. The minimum course load for the Spring, Fall, and Winter quarters should be:

  • 12 units undergraduate (course numbers 1 - 199) or

  • 12 units professional-level (course numbers X300 - X499) or

  • 8 units graduate (course numbers 200 - 299) or

  • 12 units in a combination of undergraduate/graduate/professional-level courses (if less than 8 graduate units)

For the Summer quarter, it may vary depending on the session you will be enrolled in:

  • Summer session C (11 weeks): 12 units undergraduate (course numbers 1 - 199)

  • Summer session A or B (6 weeks): 8 units undergraduate (course numbers 1 - 199)

International Certificate Program

Enrolling in the courses for your chosen certificate is straightforward. Once you are accepted into the program, you will gain access to our International Programs Portal, which will allow you to select both the required and elective courses for your certificate. Please note that you must enroll in both required courses and electives to complete the certificate.

**Note: Students enrolled in degree programs at UCSB have priority enrollment in all UCSB regular session courses.
