How to add GauchoCast (Panopto) to a Canvas course
GauchoCast is a video hosting website that processes and stores video media that can be distributed to students in Canvas.
Add GauchoCast to a Canvas Course
Click Settings in the left-hand navigation. Then, select the Navigation tab.
Find GauchoCast in the bottom hidden-tab section. Drag-and-drop it to the course navigation area at the top to make it visible to students.
Click Save. You will now see GauchoCast in the left-hand navigation.
Provision GauchoCast and add videos in Canvas
Once you have added GauchoCast to your Canvas course, you can provision the course folder and add videos:
In the left-hand navigation, click GauchoCast.
This provisions and takes you directly to the GauchoCast course folder. This folder is shared with everyone enrolled in the Canvas course.
- Instructors can create, modify, and share videos directly from this link.
- Students can access any videos added to this folder.
Embed GauchoCast Videos
GauchoCast videos can be embedded in any Canvas area with a text editor. This includes Pages, Announcements, and Discussions:
Open the Page, Announcement, Discussion, etc, where you wish to embed the video
In the text editor, click the green GauchoCast icon
Your GauchoCast account will appear. You can:
- Choose an existing recording. Select the video you wish to embed.
- Upload a video file from your computer. Find supported file typesLinks to an external site..
- Record your own video.
Choose your embedded player preferences under Video Embed Options. Then, click Insert.
Add a GauchoCast Video to a Module
Click on the plus sign in the top right of the Module you want to add the video to:
In the pop-up window, use the drop-down menu to select External Tool. Then, select GauchoCast from the options below.
Select the radio button next to the recording you want to add and click Insert
Click Add Item in the bottom left. Be sure to publish the link if you want to make it visible to students.
