Will I be able to enroll in the courses I want to take?
University Immersion Program
Enrollment in academic courses is limited and space is not guaranteed**. You must meet all prerequisites listed on the course in order to enroll. If you are unable to enroll in your first-choice courses, you must be prepared with a list of backup course choices. The course enrollment process is specific to the type of courses you wish to enroll in. For UCSB Academic courses, enrollment starts one week prior to the quarter start date.
To comply with F-1 Student Visa regulations, you must enroll in credit courses, and attend each class in person. You are allowed to take only one online course (4 units) towards your full schedule. The minimum course load for the Spring, Fall, and Winter quarters should be:
-
12 units undergraduate (course numbers 1 - 199) or
-
12 units professional-level (course numbers X300 - X499) or
-
8 units graduate (course numbers 200 - 299) or
-
12 units in a combination of undergraduate/graduate/professional-level courses (if less than 8 graduate units)
For the Summer quarter, it may vary depending on the session you will be enrolled in:
-
Summer session C (10 weeks): 12 units undergraduate (course numbers 1 - 199)
-
Summer session A or B (6 weeks): 8 units undergraduate (course numbers 1 - 199)
International Diploma Program
Enrolling in UCSB Professional Courses is easy! You can enroll in courses as soon as they are published for each quarter. Approximately 8 to 10 weeks before the quarter starts you can enroll in the courses available in that quarter. To comply with F-1 Student Visa regulations, you must pursue and complete a full course of study, which means enrolling in courses for credit, attending each class, and taking in-person component courses. The minimum quarterly course load should be:
- 12 units professional-level (course numbers X300 - X499)
**Note: Students enrolled in degree programs at UCSB have priority enrollment in all UCSB regular session courses.
