When and how can I enroll in UCSB Graduate courses?
You can enroll in two Graduate courses during the enrollment period for each quarter. Please note that there is no opportunity to enroll in courses before your arrival on campus. During the enrollment period, students visit the classes they want to take. You can only start the enrollment process on the first day of the quarter. Approved OU Authorization Forms must be submitted in person.
Since you pay a per-quarter flat tuition fee, there will be no individual course payments for these two graduate courses. Please follow the steps below to seek enrollment approval.
Enrollment Process
- Find the courses you want to take on the UCSB Schedule of Classes.
- On the first day of class, obtain a printed copy of the Open University Authorization Form at the PaCE office (2166 Kerr Hall). Enter all the course details and complete the Open University (OU) Authorization Form in its entirety. Information must be legible, accurate, complete, and include the correct enrollment code for each course section. Please obtain printed copies of your official transcript from your University to attach to each PaCE Open University Authorization Form.
- Attend the first class session, introduce yourself to the Instructor, and indicate that you wish to enroll in their course. Please ask the Instructor to approve and sign the form. This is for Departments which do not require the Department Advisor's approval and signature. Please see below for Department Advisor's approval. PaCE students do not have a perm number, cannot be added to courses with an add code and cannot be added to a waitlist.
- Several departments require Department signatures instead of the Instructor's signature. You can find the list of those departments by scanning the QR Code on the OU Form. Please follow the instructions posted for each Advisor on that list when you scan the QR Code.
- Bring completed forms (approved and denied) to the UCSB PaCE Office (2166 Kerr Hall, 2nd floor) by the deadlines listed in the OU Fees and Deadlines Chart. Our Customer Service Team will enroll you in the approved courses.
- Once enrolled, you will receive a printed Canvas Add Form from our PaCE Staff. Fill out the Canvas Add Form and give it to the Instructor or TA to gain access to the course in Canvas. Please do not ask the Instructor to add you to Canvas if your enrollment is not approved.
- If you have never logged into Canvas before, please log into Canvas first, using your UCSBNet ID and password. This creates your Canvas account.
Keep in mind that classes may be full or have waitlists, which could result in your enrollment request being denied. Enrollment in academic courses is based on availability and meeting prerequisites. Space is not guaranteed.
